Medewi Beach

"Quiet, and relaxed just like Bali was 30 yrs ago. We stay at Medewi Bay Retreat which have some great packages for those who want to keep coming back to this gorgeous little gem of a place on the west coast of Bali, about 2.5 hrs north west of Denpasar, you will find glistening, stunning black beaches where you find the most relaxed and friendly locals that never hassell and just want to make sure your trip is amazing.
The Waterfall is an experience all 875 steps, the food is amazing and fresh, the hotels are comfortable and clean some of the resorts on the beach are incredible.
But don't tell anyone!!"

Medewi is a small remote village in one of the least visited areas of Bali. It's a surfing hotspot and most visitors are staying here for that reason only. For non-surfers, it is a glimpse of what Bali was before the growth of mass tourism which took place in the 1970s. It is a great place to relax in the busy Bali life. From Kuta it is about three hours before you reach the town of Medewi. In Medewi there are no ATM's. The nearest ATM is in Negara (15 kilometer). There are some internet cafés along the main road.

You should not expect a paradise-like, white sandy beach. For surfing it is suitable for beginners and professionals.
The beach is divided into two parts, the eastern half is very rocky with some large, flat, gray pebbles surrounded by pebbles and black sand. The western half is sandier. It is not the best beach for sunbathing or lounging, but it's good for long, quiet hike. There are no vendors on the beach.
Surfers usually go to the eastern part. That's the popular part, because the waves are the biggest throughout the year. The largest waves are mostly in July and August. In the western part you can also surf, but the surf is less. There are other beaches nearby, where you can surf. One of them is Balian Beach, which is a 30-minute drive east of Medewi.
There are several possibilities at Medewi for overnight stays. The town of Negara is 15 kilometers away.

In Medewi you will not be affected by too many people. It is always quiet. This is probably due to the distance you have to take from Kuta. And..... there are also no nightclubs for party celebrations. You will find only local eateries and one Western, where the locals are very friendly. It's definitely a nice place to surf, where only the die-hards come.
Medewi has the perfect fun for all surfers. Sometimes you can surf 150 to 300 meters on a good long wave. It is not as scary as other coral reefs and the seabed is covered with boulders. If you go to the beach early, you can prevent wind from coming on. The waves are generally longer than in Kuta.
Because the atmosphere is cozy and peaceful, you will not find many tourists here. In the evening you can relax here, after dining at a local restaurant or exploring the area.
