Mangrove Lembongan

"Exploring the mangrove forest by traditional canoe takes about 30 minutes. It is very quiet except for the splash of the bamboo pole as it enters the water. Although we did not see animal life, the mangroves themselves kept us in awe. Apart from a couple of kayaks and a couple of stand up paddle boards I think we were the only ones in the forest.
The canoe exits at the coast where you get a good bird's eye view of all the boats carrying the snorkelers and divers.
We enjoyed this more than I thought we would."

The mangrove area covers a large part of the northern and eastern shores of Nusa Lembongan. There are several tours that take you to visit the mangroves. You can visit it, however, in your own way, for example with a kayak. This is exciting and adventurous. The island is not that big, only 4 by 2 kilometers, so you can just rent a kayak and sail towards it.
You can also rent a bike and ride to the mangroves. Various signs will point you out, that you can make a trip by boat and guided through the mangroves.

If you go by boat or kajak, you'll have to watch carefully. You'll see beneath you, dart away all kinds of animals, such as crabs and mud fish. At high tide, the water flows over the roots and it is a protected place for small fish and other animals, which would have been easy prey for predators. Between them to protect the roots. It is also considered as the breeding ground for many crustaceans such as crabs, shrimp, crabs, horseshoe crabs and shrimp. But also little fishes.
It is an unusual sight to see, how these trees protect themselves against salt water and their aerial roots attach themselves in the swampy soil. The mangrove roots filter the water at low tide and high tide, causing sediments are removed before they enter again the open sea, could otherwise the coral reefs could be dying.

The mangrove forests are breakwaters and may reduce the strength of storms, so there is little damage to the coast. Undoubtedly, the mangrove is also an important place along the coast for migratory waterbirds and for forest birds. Also you can find in this mangrove various species of reptiles.
