Kedonganan Fish Market

"It locates in nearby Jimbaran. But the cleanliness of the beach, is very much different. This beach looks dirty, caused by fishing boat here and there. And the smell of fish is really strong. There is also traditional market before going through the beach. Anyway, lots of small restaurant provide barbeque fish or any cook with fish. Well, you can still enjoy the beautiful sunset.
Good place for looking a Romantic Dinner. Beautiful sunset with a lot of airplanes up & down in the airport at background, because closer to the airport than Jimbaran Beach. Romantic Dinner at the beach in seafood cafes. "

The Kedonganan Fish Market is referred to the locals as the "Pasar Ikan Tradisional Kedonganan", but it is also often wrongly called the "Jimbaran Fish Market", because Jimbaran is very close to Kadonganan. On one side of Kedonganan is the airport and on the other side Jimbaran. The town of Kedonganan is famous for its fish market and because of its proximity to the famous seafood restaurants are located along the coast. The fishing boats bring their daily fresh fish to land. Just south of the market is the area with the famous cluster of Kedonganan fish restaurants, which serve most of their fresh local fish dishes at your table.

Most popular cooking classes and excursions (tours) in this southern region of Bali include a visit to Kedonganan Fish Market. Here you can see how fishermen unload their nets with sardines, bigger catches like mahi-mahi are weighed for sale at the auction.
Shrimps, crabs, lobsters and a wide variety of seafood are stored in rows of ice cans. Ready for sale to hotels and wholesale.
The market begins in the morning at dawn and the bustling crowds of the market continues throughout the day. Numerous pickup trucks are loaded with boxes, which, when loaded and ready, bring fresh seafood to hotels and restaurants.

Buying fish on the market is a great alternative to shopping in the supermarket. Especially if you have booked a bungalow or apartment. Then you can finish your own tuna or red snapper steak in your own kitchen. You can even order a chef at the market for a small and private barbecue party with your own chosen fish dishes. There is a large variety of fish available daily at the market, and you can tighten your negotiation skills at the same time.
If you do not have your own kitchen or garden available, you can always choose the following option. If you have cleaned the fish, you can grill the fish for a small fee (USD 1-4)at the market, depending on the size. Normally fish prices start from USD 2 per kilogram, and the more for rare catches you pay more.
The Kedonganan Fish Market also has its own group of smaller warungs or food stalls, where it is possible to eat cheap seafood. This is much cheaper compared to Jimbaran or Kedonganan's own luxury restaurants.

You can easily find the Kedonganan Fish Market - follow the main Jalan Uluwatu road from Jimbaran to the north, or go along Jalan Segara Madu south from Ngurah Rai International Airport. The Kedonganan Fish Market is located near the village market. Here, mainly the local Kedongan community is doing their daily shopping. These stalls sell fresh vegetables and daily necessities, including an abundance of tropical herbs, herbs, fruits and vegetables that the locals use in their kitchen.

From a Travel Blogue:

"The beach is beautiful in which we can see local fisherman but as mentioned in many reviews, a lot of rubbish in the beach area which ashamed because i can imagine without the rubbish, the beach will be a perfect place to hang out.
I give the beach very good rate mainly because of the fact that this is the place where i can east tasty sea food at a very cheap price. 1/3 expense compared what i am usually spend in beach front restaurant at Jimbaran.
The drill is to pick your favorite fish, clam, shrimp, crab, lobster, squid (you name it) from nearby fish market and bring your shopping basket to warung/restaurant at the beach who will cook according to your taste.
For comparison grilled clam in beachfront restaurant at Jimbaran will cost you IDR 95 K/kg wile for the same price you can get 3 KG of grilled clam in Kedonganan."
