SENARU TREKKING

"On July 26 we left with our family with 5 children (14, 16, 19, 19, 22) uphill. Our friendly guides Mida and Anga were very committed to us (we are athletic, but we do not hike often) and were committed to guide us safely to the crater rim, together with 7 porters. (At first we thought that was embarrassing, but otherwise we would not have succeeded) It was very intensive and exhausting, but they provided enough stops and good food and plenty of water. The porters had won the best place, which was really great! It is well worth the effort. We as parents were sick one day and our children went with the guides only to the hotsprings / lake ,. 2 vd kids would have wanted to go to the top instead, but that was not our plan and we were already split. On the outskirts we experienced a wonderful closing moment through the Rinjani stories that Mida told at a wood fire (with specially obtained permission)"

Senaru

The cool, flowery mountain village of Senaru on the slopes of Mt. Rinjani extends over a hilly road along a winding road above Bayan. It is a scenic 2.5-hour drive from Mataram or Senggigi to Senaru. The Desa includes the villages of Senaru, Batu Koq and Tumpang Sari, and they all offer accommodation in simple but beautiful homestays (losmen) with stunning views.

The Rinjani Trek Center is located at the top of the village at the start of the path to the mountain top.
The center provides information to visitors about the Rinjani Trekking, the National Park, the Sasak culture and the range of ecotourism activities available to visitors to Senaru.
The entrance fees for the National Park and the village are paid here, and all porters (carriers) for hikers (mountain climbers) must be rented from the Senaru Porters Group. This is also located in the Rinjani Trek Center. Village guides, including several local women, have been specially trained to guide visitors through the sights. Arrange a tour in the Rinjani Trek Center or in your losmen (homestay).

Senaru has a wide range of accommodation in simple homestays (losmen) and a number of cafés with delicious local specialties. The Rinjani Trek Center at the start of the uphill path offers displays, ecotourism activities and visitor information.
Village guides, including several local women, guide visitors to the adjacent traditional village, three waterfalls or take a number of village walks with tourists. The tours take about an hour and a half and go through rice terraces and waterfalls, or discover the highlights of Senaru in a beautiful half-day: the Senaru Panorama Walk.

The guided walk through the fields takes you past traditional villages and along the irrigation canal, which winds through village fields past crops and houses. Enjoy visiting local houses, seeing early morning or late evening activities and learning farming methods. Witness the rising sun rising from the sea under the spectacular panoramic views of northern Lombok from the top of Mt. Rinjani to the coast.

The Sasak are the cultural protectors of Mount Rinjani and the surrounding forest and protect its spiritual values. Local guides give you the chance to experience the daily life of the villagers, visit their thatched houses and gardens with fruit and spices.

From a travelogue:

"Our guide Dogong even climbed with us as one of the few guides the nightly trip to the top, this was nice as support but certainly also in case something should happen. Furthermore, the organization was very good. Tasty food that was prepared fresh, plenty of water, tasty snacks (coke, energy bar etc), the tents were set up for us and the material (tent, sleeping bag etc.) was excellent. Very nice because it gets very cold after sunset. We thoroughly enjoyed it.
