MENJANGAN
Island
"A boath trip of 20/30 minutes from main land, you can organize this trip for 450/500 most of the diving places ask 750 so shop around. You get water, lunch, rice and egg, and 2 drops where you can dive or snorkel, plenty of fishes but unfortunately very little live coral left. Still it's an experience worth doing if you are in the area. The all adventure last roughly 4/5 hours depending on weather and the company you use."
Greeted by the deers
The island of Menjangan
is an oasis and is part of the Barat National Park. Here you get the chance to get close to nature and to relax in a beautiful environment. The island is located in the far northwest of the island. The national park consists of different landscapes, including rainforest, beach and coral. The island offers protection to native plants and animals, including leopards, monkeys and scorpions. The island Menjangan is also a destination for beautiful snorkeling trips and walks, but it is also worthwhile to view the rest of the park. You can spot birds, make challenging walks through the wilderness, ride horses and kayak.
Barat National Park is a 5-hour drive from Denpasar or a 90-minute drive from Lovina (see map below). A popular starting point, where you can buy permits and book guided tours, can be found in Terima Bay (diving). You can rent boats in Labuang Lalang or Banyumandi. The island Menjangan is known as the best snorkeling spot in Bali. Because so many deer live on the island, it is also called deer island.
The water is crystal clear and shallow, and the coral is really beautiful. During snorkeling, you will encounter special fish every once in a while and with a bit of luck also reef sharks and sea turtles. A great experience and a nice place to explore the sea floor while swimming. |

Menjangan is on a few monks after an uninhabited island. There is a single path on the island. The island is not that big. You can also walk around the island in 1.5 hours. So take a packed lunch yourself, because there is no food or drink on the island.
Often you are greeted by the deer at the pier, but also when you walk around the island, you will undoubtedly encounter them.
Bali is not really known as a destination, where you can snorkel and dive very good. In many parts of Bali the current of the water is too strong and then there is no coral at all. The water in the Pacific Ocean is higher than in the Indian Ocean. So there is flow around Bali. An exception to that rule is the island of Menjangan, which is one of the best snorkel spots in Bali. There is no current here, because the island is located on the north side of Bali. The water is crystal clear and shallow, and the coral is really beautiful.
During the snorkeling you will encounter special fish every once in a while and with a bit of luck you will also see reef sharks and sea turtles. A great experience and a nice place to explore the sea floor while swimming. From the mainland you can easily make snorkel trips to the island of Menjangan. Mostly you can book a trip at the reception of your hotel. |

Snorkeling |
If you have a PADI diving diploma, you want to do something more exciting than snorkeling. Divers also like to head for the island of Menjangan. Life under water is spectacularly beautiful, with huge pieces of coral and dark blue depths where the seabed is tens of meters below you. Around the island there is a shallow ring of coral, about 100 to 150 meters wide. After that, however, it goes quickly into the depth and you can dive 40 to 60 meters deep. Under water you will then encounter different types of fish and other sea creatures. One of the best places to go diving is at Anker Wreck, the wreck of an old sunken ship. In the town of Pemuteran on the mainland there are diving centers, which you would like to take to the most beautiful places.
