GILIMANUK

"The ferry itself only takes about 45 minutes or so. Some things depend on other traffic, especially if many other cars and trucks are crossing. Then it takes a while before you leave. There is a huge amount of road traffic with large trucks on our route. The ferry itself only takes about 45 minutes or so.           The ferries from Gilimanuk go to the mainland every 15 to 20 minutes. Of course the ferries depart from Java with the same frequency. The crossing takes approximately 45 minutes by ferry. Once you have arrived from Bali to Bali, you must continue. This can be done by taxi / car or bus.

From the bus station the buses take you to all important places on the island, such as, Denpasar, Ubud, Sanur, Singaraja, Candidasa etc. The buses to Lovina and Singaraja run along the north side of Bali. However, if you want to go to Amed or Candidasa, then you travel by bus via Denpasar. This ride then takes considerably longer.
The police station is approximately 300 meters south of the ferry terminal and a cash machine can be found about 1 km away. Ojeks and dokars bring you there for little money.

The accommodation options in Gilimanuk are rather limited and not aimed at tourists. There are some basic guesthouses where mainly truck drivers are staying and people who stay here one night before taking the ferry to Java. Those who do not have to spend the night in Gilimanuk for this reason should stay elsewhere.
You will also find warungs on the road that goes out of the city. You will have no trouble finding simple dishes such as Ikan Bakar and Nasi Campur. You can easily find this when you want to eat. It is all very local and affordable, but be prepared to negotiate, if the price seems too high.

Gilimanuk plays its role as a seaport to the west of Bali. Daily ferry service (Bali - Java) are performed frequently. It also offers a beautiful view of the busy harbor.

From a travelogue:

"Gilimanuk is a harbour town in Bali, located near the ferry landing point to / from Java. There is nothing to do for the tourist here, so there are only 2 hotels. The ferry that has to transfer us 3 km from Ketapang (island of Java) to Gilimanuk (island of Bali) takes about 1 ¼ hours.
After about 5 minutes we are floating all the time at sea in front of the harbour, where we, together with a whole row of other ferries, have to wait our turn to moor ... Once again the end of the Ramadan troubling us ... the many Muslims who are going to visit their family in Java (where the largest population of Muslims are located) are waiting for the port on the island of Bali in kilometer-long traffic jams. All available ferries were deployed on this line ... that there are not enough mooring options for this ... they have not thought about that!"
